Jack sat on his bed reading a new book he'd gotten from the library. It was entitled The Mysteries of the Universe: Black Holes. It was a requirement for his college Astrology class, and he was determined to ace his exam. Jack had always been the nerd of the school. He was in the math club, the chess club, and the acedemic team. He had taken 9 AP courses in high school, all honors, and had been in the IB program. How he had managed all of that, Jack could never understand. But one thing he knew: He had to stay busy. When Jack was little, he'd been diagnosed with an extreme case of ADHD, and they had reccommended keeping him busy as much as possible until he was completely worn out.
His mother had always done her best to do this, but as a single mother, it had been hard for her. Jack's dad had left when he was very little. He never asked his mother about it because he didn't want to upset her. But every now and then, he would call his Aunt Jannice to hear another story about his father. From what he had heard, his father sounded like a good man. But Jack wouldn't be fooled. His father had left, and he never gave a reason or made contact. Aunt Jannice didn't know why he left...it was still the only thing missing from Jack's collection of memories from his father. He had a picture, though, and sometimes at night, he would hold it close and ask him questions that he already knew the answers to. It put him to sleep everytime.
