The boy was me ,who left home at the mid of night. The sole nocturnal existence. The road before had no companion. The sleepy midnight had nothing but a heartfelt darkness. The sky gifted with imminent slashes of thunder-dragons. The ground beneath me felt heartlessly stony. Whispers of the stagnant trees threatened me with imminent storms. "Out for a night's stroll?" a nerd voice accosted my shadow that seemed invisible. "wha..no, not actually.." my voice quivered as I surprisingly felt my heart rising into my ear. I was planning to run in an instant but that bony grab which caught me with a hidden sneer. " Are you scared really?" the ghost tried to crack jaw. I momentarily imagined his jaw loosened down and hanging effortlessly. " Get off you bustard!" I tried to scowl, but as it happens in nightmares, I froze, my voice muted. But it felt something of 'this world'. No stench of rotten flesh, or peeled off skin, my nostrils stuck with sweaty smell of underarms that probably did not bathe for months. I felt the beads of breath-taking, breath that was not icy. The stranger now spoke farther. "I am no ghost you frightened mouse!" he sneered again. " Look at me, look into my eyes, I am just like you, I escaped home too" the voice now softened, yet not reliable. I forcibly freed myself out of his grab and sprang aside. " How do you know that I left home?" I asked roughly. The stranger kept silent for a while and spoke, " This is our destiny brother, we had to find each other, now or later. This hours of night are now made for us invisible shadows, death bearers. The bustling world left us so alone that we merge in dark away from the worries of it, away from worrying others. we were bound to made our mind to elope our homes and embark in this pitch dark and meet each other" there was a long silence from my side, probably I was weeping, or felt like that. " Are there others out there? Like us. Abandoned? Alone? Lonely? Forgotten?" I kept on monotonously. He shook me, "Wake up" he said. "We cant define ourselves now. We are now more than what it seems like, we are undefinable, capricious. We are at a loss. There are so many like us in this world you see. We will meet them one by one. At midnight. The same of us. And one day we will be different from each other too." I felt we are near friends now. Though we still did not see each other's face for once. " Whatever, we don't have any other face now" I thought. " We are now vagabonds by night, and no one by day" The stranger now kept his arm on my shoulder, flung me closer, and continued under his warm breath, " Lets go on, keep on walking, we have nowhere to go" he whispered seriously. We kept on walking silently for a long time. So many green fields we smelt we passed, so many stray dogs passed us whining insanely, owls hooted sitting in tree holes, sirens whistled by far along the horizontal line. The apocalyptic sky started to rumble. Flashes of lightening appeared momentarily and vanished making us blind for a moment. Then suddenly we came near the foothill. "There is a cave up there" he pointed up in the dark. " There we stay at day break" he pulled by my hand. I remained silent, and walked with him. It felt like my senses were going numb. The east sky was getting brighter. Something reddish appeared behind the horizon, and that was my last sight. I felt we were dragging each other upward as if we were trying to save each other's life. We dragged insanely, reached the mouth of the cave. It was darker than pitch inside as I felt and fainted as we entered the cave.
The next time when I woke up, it was beside my friend as I groped at his long beard. We were still in dark. " Wake up my friend, its morning, lets get out of here" I pushed him side by side. "There is no morning for us friend, not any more" he woke up sighing. It felt of a deep heart break and despair in his grieving voice. My heart also felt laden with sorrow. " Lets start our journey, its midnight again" he rose up flinging on my shoulder.
