The Simple Things
I have been enjoying the simple things in life.

Back in August, I moved into a three-bedroom cabin of a house with two teammates, Mike and Craig. The cabin is old – there is a wood stove in our living room, if that tells you anything – but it is luxurious. Nestled on the backside of Lees-McRae College’s campus, it resides in the perfect location. It takes just five minutes to walk to class.

Last year, the three of us plus four other dudes - yeah, I know, 7 college guys in one house (cringe) - lived in a giant half-million dollar home on the top of Sugar Mountain. It certainly had it's own advantages, but having to drive 10-12 minutes to campus and then walk another 5 minutes to class was a real pain in the ass.

So this new cabin is pretty sweet. The location is prime-time, I have my own own room for the first time in college, and the porch is really fucking sweet. But, and this is quite a big but (insert big "butt" joke here), we don't have cable or internet.

Yes, that's right, you read that last line correctly. No cable. No internet. And yes, we really are in college.

I should mention first, however, that we aren't completely 100 percent without internet. We can get internet from the school pretty well out on the porch. Craig can also get internet in the living room, but it is spotty as shit and about as reliable as, well, as a shitty internet connection. I discovered about a month ago that I, too, can get internet off of the school if I place my laptop in the far left corner of my desk, in a precise, perfect spot. One day I will have a full, sweet connection and the next day my computer won't register that there was ever an internet invented.

And so we have resorted to enjoying the simpler things in life.

The first real rage of entertainment, which certainly wouldn't have happened if we could have been inside watching Bear Grylls or wasting away on facebook, was throwing bana
