you awoke abruptly, momentarily disoriented. in a few seconds, you realise. you're home, in bed. the large mass beside you is just your boyfriend. he's encroaching onto your side of the bed again. you give him a not-so-gentle nudge with your elbow. being tired makes you cranky.

you look over at the clock. the numbers three, five, seven glow back at you. four hours until the alarm clock will rudely awaken you, as planned. you sigh. your eyes begin to droop, but your mind is racing. your thoughts mainly consist of the "how can i get more sleep" variety. you try to arrange yourself comfortably.

you trial putting your arms around your boyfriend, but soon move away. his body temperature is always far too hot to sleep next to. you roll over, wishing he would lay on his side, as neat and compact as you do on yours. your eyes are wide open now.

you stare at him through the darkness, your eyes straining to make out his dark, shaggy hair and his stubbled jaw. a ray of light reflects off of his pale skin, outlining the soft, smooth skin of his forehead. every time you see such soft skin, you sigh with envy. why can't your face be so blemish free? so delightfully toned and smooth?

slowly your eyes take in his lips. curvy for a man, you always think. but gorgeous. his lips are your favourite thing about him. especially that one little freckle on his bottom left lip. so unusually adorable.

you sigh again. your chest swells with a mixture of love and contempt. sleep. all you want is sleep. why can't he give you that? why must he sprawl out like that? why can't he be cooler to the touch? gosh, how his skin burns. your eyes begin to droop, your thoughts become jumbled and incoherent. you feel a burning on your skin that reminds you of the sun. suddenly, you're falling into a blackness. and then the blackness stops as quickly as it came.

you awake in a field, where sunflowers turn in your direction. the sun is beating down on you. the flowers are so tall. you can't see the sky anymore. and then you can't see anything at all.
