Kari Jumped down from the last step on the school bus and shouldered her blue bag once more. As the doors slid closed behind her, the 15 year old girl set off down the road in front of her. She had walked this path so many times before, she just let her feet take her where they may and her mind decided to fly off to Wonderland. With a sigh, Kari turned into the driveway to her right and opened the door to the large white house at the end. "Mom, I'm home!" She called, setting her bag by the coat rack just inside the door.

She heard footsteps upstairs and a few seconds later a light brown head of hair poked out at the top of the stairs to her right. "Kari! There are brownies in the oven that should be done in a few; keep an eye on them?"

"Mmmmm, of course!" Kari's mom made the best brownies in the neighborhood and she just couldn't wait for them to be done. She danced her way into the kitchen and the sweet scent of chocolaty goodness filed her nose. Just then, a small beeping noise was heard in he direction of the oven, and Kari squealed with excitement, gliding over and opening the oven door. Her face was buffeted with a pillow of heat, but that didn't bother her as she reached up to the stove and grabbed the blue and white checkered oven mitts, placing one on each hand. Once that was done, Kari slid her hands under the handle of the brownie tray and carefully lifted the batch out of the oven.

The oven door closed with a thump and Kari placed the pan on the stove, then took off the too-large mitts.
