Trip into Evernight
Winter's chill had just begun to embrace Brookshire as Fall began to change the trees to their pastel glory. Madison was sitting on her porch to her small home on the edge of town knitting a scarf for Elizabeth.Autumn was Madison's favorite time of year as all the harvest festivals began to take place before winter truly set in, and because Elizabeth made some of the best apple pie in town.
"Why hello there pretty lady! What is that you are making me?" Charles always brought a smile to Madison's face.
"This happens to be a scarf for Elizabeth, you know how little she is, and she'll need it to stay warm this winter." Madison laughed putting away her knitting as she knew Charles would keep her from it.
"Yes, We couldn't just feed the poor girl once and a while. Have you seen her today? She was supposed to help me gather pumpkins in my field and she never showed up." Charles sat down on his spot at the porch right by the door.
"Thats strange. She must be with Jared. Those two are always getting distracted and up to trouble. Maybe they are at my Uncle's Store." Madison tried not to worry, she was doing better about it, but it was strange for Elizabeth to just not show up with out a reason.
"Yea your cousin does have a habit of convincing people to that he is helpless, especially with his chores around the shop." At that they both laughed.
A half hour went by before Madison decided to try and knit again. Charles was slowly shifting to sleep. Mitchell jogged up with a large smile on his face.
"Uh-oh. What has you all smiles? Trouble I assume." Now there was no chance of finishing the scarf.
"Quite the opposite, Silly. I have the whole day off of work, I have received a bonus for all of very hard work. And, most importantly, Elizabeth said she was going to go and get some special ingredients for a dessert she is inventing." Jared was still wearing his work clothes as usual he never went home to change.
"I thought you she was with you? She was supposed to help Charles and never showed up." Now she couldn't help but be worried.
Charles sat up and was suddenly awake. "Did she say where she was going to get these ingredients?"
There was little that stirred Jared's concern, and this was not it. "She said something about a glade she found just inside the Evernight Woods. And relax she said she goes there all the time." Both Charles and Madison exchanged the same knowing look they had to find her and soon. Madison didn't know she would never get to finish that scarf.
