He was never anything in his parents' eyes.
He talked, or at least, tried to, and they ignored him. He cooked them dinner and they threw it away, saying they already ate out. He went home soaking wet and shivering because of the freezing rain, and they almost broke his arm for dirtying the floor.
What did he do wrong? Going to school, earning a myriad of compliments from people, working hard to be the best. Coming back home, cleaning the house, completing all chores, being a good child. He did everything that was within his ability. Nothing pleased his parents. He didn't complain, though. He couldn't, and wouldn't complain. He thought what he did wasn't enough. Parental care was an item too expensive for his pocket full of uselessness. He hoped that some day, in the distant future, his parents would notice his relentless effort to satisfy them and his desire to be something in their eyes, and, if he might be so bold as to say, love him.
He was only 15. That age when you should be roaming about with their wild and youthful energy and looking forward to all the wonders that the world has to offer. When life is blooming brilliantly like thousands of crystals falling from the sky. When everything surrounding you is charming and blissful and not tainted by the cruelty that is humans.
To Dan, at the age of fifteen, the one single dream he had was that his parents would acknowledge him.
