BACHELOR BRIDGE
"Lady are you sure that you want me to leave you here. The snow doesn't look like it's gonna let up anytime soon." The cabby said.
Samantha reached in her pocket book and handed the cab driver his fare. "I'll be fine."
"Your choice lady."
Samantha wasn't listening. She had already gotten out of the car with her purse and overnight bag. She stood watching as the cabdriver drove away. The gravel road she was on was quickly becoming covered with snow. Soon it would be nightfall. She had to keep moving.
The bridge was just ahead dimly lit by a lone light swinging overhead precariously swaying in the wind back and forth. They had always called the bridge Bachelor Bridge as children although it was far from an actual bridge with only one lane to drive on. If you were to jump off of it, you may sprain your ankle if you landed in the nearly dried up stream but you would hardly break a limb.
Samantha could see a shadow emerging from the other side of the bridge. She felt in her leather coat to make sure that her 22 pistol was still there. The figure walked closer and then stopped midway on the bridge and stopped. He was wearing a dark trenchcoat and a fidora hat. The man was standing directly under the light which made it impossible for her to see if it was Paul with the shadow looming from his figure.
She slowly walked closer edging her way to the entrance of the bridge. She gripped her pistol for security before stepping on the bridge.
"Samantha I am so happy to see you."
"Paul." Samantha said.
Paul walked up and hugged Samantha so hard that she thought he was going to crush her ribs. She didn't care. It had been nearly twenty years since they had seen one another and she welcomed him as much as he did her.
"Why all the secrecy Paul?" Samantha asked. "Surely we could have met at the hotel or you could have told me over the phone."
"No I couldn't. We are in danger Samantha. All of us, the whole gang."
"What are you talking about?" Samantha asked. "How can we all be in danger? We haven't seen eachother in years and from who?"
Paul released his hug from Samantha and looked down the road into the darkness. "We need to get to the cabin and off the street. I will tell you all about
