Betrayal
18th January 2012 . That day was burned into the Queen's memory. She prayed with all her might that she would never have to relive this day again for the rest of her life.

There really should not have been anything special about that day . Prices were still skyrocketing. The populace was tense from a combination of the extreme heat, dwindling cash and corruption and trying to make it to the end of the month as usual. The only thing unusual about that day was the local news.

Splashed across the headlines was the title " The king finally has a heir." Further details revealed that indeed the Queen was not the heir apparents mother and that the child had been borne seven months ago. The subjects had mixed reactions . Part of them rejoiced for the new boy child who would continue the king's legacy but many of them felt sorry for the betrayal their beloved queen .

The Queen had known that monogamy was not a trait the Royal family esteemed yet when the King had wooed her she had had faith that she was the only woman for him.
Their courtship had been short and approval by the council of elders swift. Their wedding indeed was still talked about to this day .

Two years after their wedding they had had a beautiful baby girl and she could not have imagined being any happier. She poured herself into the mundane duties of motherhood with all the love she could muster and this endeared her to the eldery inhabitants of the palace.

Three years after the princess was borne , however , she begun to receive subtle remarks that maybe it was time to try for that prince seeing as she was already well advanced in age and she still did not have a male child.

Months of trying turned into years. She felt her biological clock ticking with helplessness
The years marched firmly into menopause and the King started to withdraw from her. She cried sad tears at his callousness for abandoning her when she most needed him.

Suddenly he started to smile again and while she wondered at the change in him, she was still too hurt to bother to find out. They had not shared a bedroom for a year. One day when she returned from the ballet school she was pioneering the king came to meet her and confessed that he had sired a son with a concubine.

She was shocked and she started to cry and run away . He tried to hold her back , apologise and calm her down but she was too mad and dissapointed. She had avoided him for the rest of the year. Yesterday , one of her aides had brought her an advance copy of the news so she would prepare herself to answer the public when they asked.

The article just made the hurt worse and reopened her wounds. It made her humiliation public. Then her phone started to ring and would not stop. She refused to pick it up.
Tomorrow she would file for divorce........
