She was that girl, the one who had her head in the clouds. The one everyone called immature and childish. The one who got labeled crybaby. The one with big innocent eyes that would stare at someone with incomprehension because there was something about the real world that scared her. She was the one who adored the story of Peter Pan and his Neverland. Secretly, she sought her own Neverland. Her greatest fear was growing up. Why? Simply because the real world was a frightening place. People around were changing, and within a blink of an eye she was seventeen, a year away from being declared a legal adult. She was a step away from adulthood, yet all she craved were her childhood fantasies.
She dreamed to escape her reality. She wished to escape the undeniable truth that she was growing up, and quickly. She clung to her fairy tales, of "once upon a time's" and "happily ever after's". Yet, her fears kept her from pursuing her dreams, of her own happily ever after. She dreamt, big crazy dreams. She thought they were unrealistic, so she pushed them to the back of her mind and locked it with a small key and threw away the key. No one could ever find out, how truly childish she could be. No one could ever know the secrets that lay behind those brown eyes.
She longed for childhood to last longer but she craved the independence an adult had. Yet, that very independence was what she feared the most. She feared that once she took that one step into the adult world, she would be forever barred from her childhood. For as long as she remained in her childhood, her fantasies could become reality. Nothing was impossible as long as she could dream it up. You see, adults often forget their childhood dreams, their unrealistic dreams. They forget the naïve belief that anything could be accomplished if you wished for it hard enough, for wishing on a falling star is something for children. Stories of princesses and princes were reserved for the young ones.
She had no desire to leave behind the world she knew. The one she was comfortable with, but she was curious as all children are. Curiosity could be a great asset but it can also be a cause of a downfall. It was so subtle that she hadn't even realized it. She had ventured from her safe haven into the fascinating yet less stable world of teenagers. She stumbled at first, both horrified and amazed by the many possibilities that lay ahead of her.
