Not quite sure why I need the internet to write one page a day...it's not like I don't have a typewriter at my house (or a word processor, because that's all this is). The only useful thing about this will be the reminders (I hope they don't come too regularly) and the fact that it is online so I won't need my typewriter or paper/pencils.
The downsides compared to a typewriter: I can't figure out how to
tab, so I just hit 'space' five times and you can delete things. (One of the reasons I like the typewriter is that you can't delete so you don't waste much time editing what you've written...it's not going to be that good on a first draft no matter how many times you rephrase "looked up to the moon.")
Over the summer I'll probably use this a lot...my plan is to hit about 3000 words a day (mostly in the morning, I want to train myself to be a morning writer) for about two weeks, focusing some days on different techniques and skills and other days just writing. I want to get back into 'the zone,' if I was ever there to begin with, before I start writing the few stories I've got planned/drafted. Also, I'll eat almost completely vegan and bike/do conditioning every day.
Can't wait until Mr. Hollobaugh's class next year...I may even have him for journalism AND news staff. I think he could actually teach me a lot in each of those, unlike Kenger and Behl.
Writing stories is not as hard as people make it out to be, especially if they're good (it jacks up your enthusiasm, although sometimes I'm scared to wreck a good idea). I think I could start a Fitzgerald-esque career with short stories--being high class and whatnot--a Capote/Krakauer-esque career in journalism, and have fun with poetry on the side.
By profession, I think I may become a speech writer.
I'm going mountain biking and to mow grandpa's lawn right now, I'll see how this site goes tomorrow, for my first 'real page'.
