He clearly did not know me very well.
Graduation was approaching and the end of the semester was heavily peppered with outdoor bonfires laced with acoustic sing-a-longs. Now that Dan's existence was known to me and my other friends, he was soon made a permanent addition to our gatherings.
Katie and company were sitting on the grass outside our regular haunt, 208 Queen Street. It was a flea ridden abomination, complete with hand-me-down couches, and a front door who's only purpose was moonlighting as a beer pong table, making it the quintessential college hang out. Drew, Dan, and I arrived late, an awkward threesome with tangible tension. Dan shook his hair off his face, his acoustic guitar slung over his shoulder and Drew watched me with an air of ownership. I was trying hard to play it cool, but never could because I'm simply not. I took a swig from my open bottle of Andre and focused on the bubbles coating my throat. I was drunk. It was ten.
"Play, play, play!! I want that sexy voice to wash over me like this beer!" Katie stared at Amy and indicated a wet mark on her basketball shorts, which Amy had apparently soiled. Amy smiled and shot back some clever remark which would have suggested that Katie deserved it, if had been listening.
"What are you guys in the mood for?" Dan asked as he sat on an empty log. A chorus of "Zombie" by the Cranberries sang out and Dan began to strum. My head was clouded but I powered through, taking ample gulps from my bottle between verses, using the champagne as a microphone while I sang. Katie and Amy sat together, linked at the elbows, my backup singers. No one acknowledged the fact that we were set to graduate the next day. It
