"Katie?" she seemed to hear from far away, "Katie!Hello-o-o?" Katie Meadows quickly became fully aware, and worked hard to suppress a smile as she begrudgingly pulled her gaze away from Jack's muscular upper body as he chopped wood and looked Dinah directly in the eyes, her own eyebrows raised inquisitively.
"Yes, Dinah?" she asked. Dinah's eyes sparkled joyously, matching her wide smile, "Don't get me wrong...after all, I am completely in favor of the view. However, we've got to figure out a way to open these cans or we will starve to death." She had a good point, so Katie came back inside the cabin and helped Dinah in her search for a can opener. While Dinah checked the few drawers in the kitchenette, Katie checked her backpack, feeling sure she had SOMETHING they would be able to use. As she searched, she couldn't help but slip two or three glances out the window to see if Jack was still in her line of vision, and felt cheeks get warmer for doing it. She didn't know how she came to enjoy looking at him so much so soon. He'd only been here five days. Of course, they had spent almost every one of those days together in some form or fashion.
"So, uh, what's up with you two, anyway?" Dinah prodded, blatantly not disguising the hope in her tone. Fortunately for all, Katie was able to find her Swiss Army knife and successfully opened the few cans of pinto beans and apple pie filling they had found in one of the cupboards.
