snippet from The Wrath
The Wrath
The barren wasteland laid stretched out before him as he crouched watching the sunset slowly into the horizon. He had been there for an hour safe in the knowledge that the two silhouettes slowly walking across the plain could not see him in the late afternoon light.

It had been days since he had seen a sign of life and now the two figures fascinated him. He wondered where they were going, but more importantly he wondered who they were. Few people traveled these lands anymore, let alone in such a small group, especially since the Wrath had began attacking down from the hills.

He was just about to move to approach the pair when a cloud of dust caught his eye in the distance. Crouching lower he continued watching, the cloud making it hard to see but he could tell there were at least half a dozen of them moving fast on horseback. They were heading straight towards the pair who had as yet failed to notice the approaching danger.

Making himself as low as possible he watched the events unfold, seeing the pair notice the approaching cloud, seeing the panic as they turned and ran. He watched helplessly as they were swallowed up by the cloud and when the dust finally settled he saw their bodies laying on the ground. Their bodies wrecked and their possessions stolen as the cloud returned from where it came.

He remained where he was until the light faded daring not move until he was sure he was under the cover of darkness. Once he was certain it was safe he rose quickly and headed off in the opposite direction to where the group had disappeared. He moved rapidly wanting to put us much distance between him and the danger on the horizon.
