So, to the fall, to our ending. I think rather this is not the time to dwell too much upon it, because without our beginnings much of what I can tell cannot mean much to those who may be reading this. So it is to our beginnings I shall turn, and to such a bright beginning it was.

There were twenty of us at the start of days as they are reckoned here; not four hundred and twenty, nor even larger numbers that the tales would suggest. Ten men and ten women, that is all.
