Monolouge 2: Being Is Hard

Setting: Just a younger girl speaking. She seems wise for her age, but she is purely innocent. Age 6-10

CHARACTER: Being brave is hard. I would know. I have to be brave all the time. When mommy's feeling bad or when daddy vanishes, I have to be brave.
Being happy is hard. I would know. I have to be happy all the time. When mommy and daddy are yelling, I have to be happy.
Being angry is hard. I would know. I have to be angry all the time. When mommy want me to side with her against daddy, or daddy wants me to side with him against mommy, I have to be angry.
Being alive is hard. I would know. I have to be alive all the time. When I breathe, when I cry, when I yell, when I scream, when I shout, and I jump, when I run, when I'm brave, when I'm happy, I'm alive.
And you know what? I like doing hard things. Because I'll be a much better person when I'm as old as mommy or daddy. And maybe, when I'm their age, being brave, being angry, and being alive won't be as bad anymore. Because I'll be all grown up. And Big. And Bad. And Adult.
