WANDER LUSTER
--------------------------
"My eyes are burning"
"That is to be expected. It's perfectly normal."
Silent. For a second, anyway.
"How so?"
"It just is. Now hush."
Alexander touched her forehead, his cool fingers a relief on the hot skin. "How much did you take, you crazy pixie?"
"Mmm?"
"Exactly how much of the potion did you take?"
"You are talking in riddles, silly boy. I thought you were allowed to look into my heart. You love me, do you not? When did that stop."
She did not ask it. She just stated it plain out. Well. That was embarrassing.
"I never stopped loving you!" He said in a whisper, trying to pull her close; but she would have none of it.
"Leave me alone, Alexander, you impossible boy! Don't you know I took the biggest size, the 'Kings Nest'?" And, since Alexander was much too elegant a creature to openly gap at her, he gasped and clapped a delicate white hand to his mouth.
Scoffing, Mirabelle looked at him with disappointment. But why was it disappointment? HE was the one who should be feeling disappointment! She had promised that she would no longer take potions, yet here she was, at it again for the third time in one month.
"You know, boys in the 'real world' do not gasp like you. When they are surprised, or upset, or scared, or exited even, they use these words called cussing or swearing. Far more interesting than you, I'm sorry to say."
Alexander gasped again, though this time, his mouth hung wide open. "Mirabelle! Is that why you took the potion? To go see...THEM? Of all things!"
"Shut up! Please! You can be such a bother..."
"Was that one of those cursing things?"
Mirabelle tilted her head in lazy thoughtfulness. "I believe it was."
Why did she sound pleased? So very pleased.
As Alexander walked her to the lake, he wondered what he could do for Mirabelle when she herself didn't even know what she wanted done for her.
