Working EMS in Detroit, you meet lots of bad characters. Most of them are your coworkers. The patients are usually legitimately sick. It's your coworkers who bitch endlessly about stupid bullshit. Most of them took the job because they wanted to work somewhere halfway interesting to exit the doldrums of their stucco suburban life. They wanted somewhere where they could easily make up reasons to continue being racist. A number of comments among the young employees that begin with "not to be racist, but..." yield to older employees who have may or may not be employing apostrophe. It hasn't been the patients who wear on me. It's the whiny suburbanites who work here.
