“Cam no. Stay here man, don’t go in there. Please Cam.”
“Let me go.” He pushed through the arms holding me and ran through the house following the voices, following the blood. So much blood. No, it can’t be. It can’t happen. He slid to a stop right pass the bedroom door. All conversation stopped.
There was his son-in-law was tied to a chair, his face hung loosely on his skull where the skin was cut away from the bone. His skin peeled from his chest down to his pant line. Cam’s head swung to the bed. His daughter was tied to the bed spread eagle. “Oh God, Oh God,” he fell to his knees. His baby, she was raped, brutally with whatever Nettleton could find. Knives, meat cleavers, she died with horror froze on her face. Pain cut through him. Though his gut, through his heart. Cam rocked back and forth, sobbing. “Oh God, Oh God. Oh God.” The blood soaking in his pants, so much pain. “Oh God. My baby, my ba…by.”
“Captain, you better see this.”
“What!” Cam pulled himself up. “My grandkids?” He didn’t want to see. Not the children. Oh God, not the kids. He followed, numb, with tears running down his face unnoticed.
The cops parted and let the captain and him through. On the wall, written in his daughter’s blood, was a message. “Your life for your grandchildren’s.”

“If we do this, we do this my way. Do you understand?”
“He sat there staring into his drink.”
“You understand?” She couldn’t be more plain.
“Yes, I understand. I turned in my shield and gun Tori. I am no longer a cop.” He continued looking into his whiskey.
The misery in his eyes was almost her undoing. “Are you going back into law enforcement after?”
“No. I turned in my retirement papers. They haven’t been excepted yet, but it’s only a formality. No one expects me to stay on after what happened.”
“You already know what side of the law I walk on. Am I going to have to worry about this coming to bite my ass later on?”
“Just find my grandkids. Please get the bastard.”

“Get the bastard?” Does he know what he’s asking of her?
He looked up to where she was leaning against her sink, “I want him dead.”
She nodded, “Done.”
