Lil Lilly was raised in a dog rescue shelter. For all over her life, she was surrounded by dogs. Big dogs, tiny dogs, fat dogs, skinny dogs. It was loud and crowded and always exciting. Lilly was born in the kennel and knew nothing about the outside world, but she shared her dog run with 3 other dogs, and they told her about the WORLD OUTSIDE.
Dog 1 had lived in a home with a man. Hurt leg.
Dog 2 had lived on the streets, knew tricks.
Dog 3 had been in the pound, and had been rescued at the last minute by the Puppy Lady.
The Puppy Lady lived in the middle of the city, and she lived to save dogs and find them homes. One day the lady's son arrived. This will never do. This is valuable property, and we could sell it for lots of money. The dogs have to go.
The puppy lady protested. We have to find homes for all these dogs, she said. I love them too much. Dogs should be with people.
The son gave her a deadline, and she found homes for many of the dogs. But Lilly and her three friends were left behind, and they had to go to the pound.
The son called a taxi to take them to the pound. When Lilly realized what was happening. she panicked. Because she was so small, she managed to slip out of the carrier and hide in the cab. The cabbie, a nice gentle man named Arthur, found her hiding under the seat when he took his cab back to the dispatch.
Well what have we here? I can’t take you home to my apartment, but I can make you a temp home here at the cab dispatch. That was someone can always be here to take care of you.
Lilly was excited about this. Because dogs should be with people.
Every day Lilly rode around in the cab with Arthur. She met lots of people and made friends with the other cab driviers. There was Cabbie 1, Cabbie 2 and Cabbie 3 who took special care of her when Arthur couldn’t be there.

One day (Lilly ended up in the street.) (then she went to the pound) the birds and squirrels let Arthur know where she was. All the cabbies hopped in to their cabs and went racing to the pound. Arthur is reunited with Lilly, and the other three dogs end up with the three look-a-like cabbies.
