The Rat King
You sighed and folded your arms across your chest. There was still that small part of the parchment waiting to be filled up. After that, you've done it--the story's completed. Your work will (hopefully) go down in history. Your name will be one for the history books.
You and your creation, the story of The Rat King.

"The Rat King, huh...sounds like a cheap story to me..."
Brian blinked twice, just to make sure he wasn't reading the title wrong. He side-eyed Lucas, who glanced at it with a puzzled look that matched Brian's.
"It's one of these years again, huh?" Lucas went back to eating his lunch. Brian looked around. The cafeteria was packed as usual; lines were starting to build up and people were once again struggling with letting others sit with them. Thankfully for him and Lucas, Brian insisted on leaving the club meeting a little earlier.
"So, Brian," Lucas mumbled with a mouthful of spaghetti. "How's it feel taking the lead role? About time, huh?"
"Yeah," Brian smiled. "It's a strange lead role, though."
He flicked through the script, skimming through wall after daunting wall of text. Every other second there would be a small sentence or two that would catch his attention. When he got to page 42, though...
"Wait, the Rat King falls in love with a lamb?" Brian leaned back, holding the script out as if it was diseased. "Lucas, you gotta take a look at this--"
The script slid out of Brian's hand. Lucas leaned forward and took a look while chewing away at his food.
"'My love is a lamb, caught in the thicket and left out bleating for help,'" he said, amused. " Dude, it's just a metaphor. I can't believe you didn't catch that!"
"Figures of speech confuse me," said Brian.
"You don't really pay that much attention to English class, don't you?"
"Hey, I pay attention to--"
His words were cut short by the sight of both Tracy and Mimi heading towards them, both with trays full of food. Mimi waved at him, which caused Brian to freeze up--
As he always does when she's involved.
"I see you two had no trouble looking for tables," said Tracy, scooting over and sitting just across Lucas. He didn't seem to notice her; he was close to finishing his lunch.
"Oh, Tracy! Hey, Tracy," he almost choked on his food. "I didn't see you there."
