What have I learned about writing
1. Decide what to write about.
Writers have a great disadvantage. They start with a blank piece of paper. Nothing on it. Instead of deciding what to write about, they start what I call blabbering. Less blabber, but more so directionless. Always decide what to write. Do not spray your energy in meaningless direction.

2. Finish what you started.
You are in the moment. The moment defined the topic you were gonna write about. Dont let go of it. Finish it. Before you leave the page and pen, think for a moment ... is it done? If not continue.

3. If you have to leave...
Do a memory dump. That means just jot down fast, what more you wanted to write. In very simple lines. So you can start where you left off. IMP: The current state of mind (or what I call the moment) would not be attained again. Read point 2 again. If you are convinced you need to leave. hmmmm..

4. Are you bored?
If you become bored, after initial moments when you were thrilled about writing on the topic, then your writing did not take the correct direction. Erase completely. Start again. Yes from blank page. OK.. Alrite... you can leave the title or the first sentence, they would serve as an anchor. Maybe the anchor was wrong in the first place??!! Think about it. IMP: Read point 2 again.

5. Strive to achieve simplicity. Not greatness.
Not sure how to stress this point. Read Gogol, Chekov, Turgenev, Pushkin. Russian authors defined 'simplicity' in writing. The page or essay or story should convey the point and the meaning, not just words. Your words are vehicle, not the destination.

6. Did your writing solve the purpose?
You might not know the purpose of your writing at the beginning, or even in the middle. But at the end you will. Did the writing achieve the end? If not, come back again. Leave it for now.
Only greatness would exist in unity (singularity), mediocrity is relative. : Me
