Customer Service
So I've decided that really special people have to work in customer service, retail, mainly. I work in a kids' clothing store, and let me tell you, it's an experience. I love the people I work with. All women with different personalities and traits. I can learn something from all of them. It's the customers we have to deal with that makes my job hard. Maybe it's the motto, "The customer is always right" that gets stuck inside their brains and tells them they can do whatever the want or act however they want in our store. But, frankly, if I were manager, I wouldn't put up with it. Our store is in an outdoor mall, a high price rent district. We pay a lot to stay there and have a safe environment. But we also have to pay in the snotty customers that shop there and think the world revolves around them. Most of them are women. Now, you would think that because our store is mainly a woman environment, that we all would just get along. Not so. As far as customers go, people can be awful. We have lying shoplifters all the time, and our security policy is so messed up. We can't actually accuse someone of shoplifting, and if we do see someone shoplift, we technically can't call security. But today, we called security because apparently some woman was going on a free spree. So we called security and she freaked out, denying any accusations against her. My coworker saw her do it, but I had been checking people out, so I hadn't seen it. What was funny though about the scene was that we all recognized this woman because she's shoplifted at the mall before. Like, the security guards recognized her. Now you know it's bad when people know who you are. She needs some new spots to steal in. Anyway, my point is that the people behind the cash register aren't lazy bums who have nothing better to do. We're humble people who can pretty much withstand anything. I've had women yell at me, give me death stares. It makes me immune to it all, which I think is a good thing. So, the next time you go into a Target or a Wal-Mart, maybe you should try to actually think about the person checking out your items. He or she might be having a bad day or might need this job to save up for something. Whenever I have a customer who can make me laugh, it always brightens up my entire day.
