Beginnings should be easy shouldn't they? They don't usually need prompting, the just occur. Some beginnings are simple, you know the thing's started, and you're able to track the journey to the definitive end- but sadly these beginnings tend to take the fun out of life, there's no spontaneity if you already know where the ending is. Others are more surprising, they come out of nowhere and before you know it, the whole thing's over before you knew it had started, but you acknowledge that they happened, and toddle along with the rest of whatever it is you were doing before being so rudely interrupted by chance. Some call Karma the inevitable outcome of actions you KNOW you shouldn't have done, but really if you thought about it, you'd have seen it coming a mile off.
You can tell which kind of beginning you've had by the questions you ask before it starts, for example HOW am I going to do this means that the ending is a relatively short period of time away, WHY am i doing this, implies that you've just fallen into this and probably missed the turning point leading to this moment. What am I doing, that's an interesting one. It can either mean, I need to do SOMETHING, or be another way of saying WHY am I doing this. Who am I doing? is a pretty sure sign you missed the beginning, most of the journey, but MY GOD are you going to remember the end when you've sobered up. It's also about time you got better friends- you're obviously not capable of looking after yourself, so get friends that'll stop you wandering off with J. Boggs every time you get mullered.
But life is a journey.
Death is an adventure.
Birth... well that's just the most disgustingly messy, painful and beautiful process a person can go through...
I digress.
This is the beginning of a book. I know it is. But I can honestly tell you I have no idea when or how this is going to end... or why I'm even writing it to be honest with you!
