Early Things
We were in love
once, and I'll know
that forever. We were
the kind of thing one
regrets when one knows
better. That's good enough
for me. To know that love
can be learned from even
when it's wrong, to know
that being wrong matters.
This is the kind of thing
we are young for—to love
incorrectly. To want wrongly.
We love unconditionally and
so freely in those early days.
We learn the kind of skills
we will need to be wrong
with later in life—but it felt
so good back then. That is
what I miss most. When
wrong felt good. When wrong
felt right. When being alone
amongst many was the right
way to be. When black and
white was the inveritable color
of the sky and we were
what was meant to be.
