There is good company, there is bad company, and there is fun company. Spending the day with Musicians probably falls into the latter two.
Spending an evening with them is definitely the latter two. Under the pretence of "band practice", we went over to Josh(guitar)'s place to play loud noises in his garage for a bit. Since our old basement has closed down this is the best we've got for a while.
So the acoustics aren't great, it's a smaller space, not soundproofed either so restricted times, and there's spiders everywhere. But one other thing about his house makes it an amazing place. Two words: Hot Tub.
A drummer, bassist, guitarist and his girlfriend get into a Hot Tub. This isn't the set-up for some joke; it's the set up for a damn good night. A few bottles of beer, a few cigarettes and 8-11pm darkness made it a great atmosphere. Unfortunately, it made me and Glen(drums) pretty sickeningly aware of our perpetual singledom. Being a Musician does not guarantee groupies - our sole groupie is Josh's girlfriend. Still, for a band with 1 finished song and no actual NAME it's pretty good.
Our next gig is in 17 days, by which point we'll hopefully have had 2 more practices and have the 3 finished songs and 2 covers that our drummer lied about us having in order to get the gig. SO it's just a glorified open-mic, but I don't want it to fail. It probably won't, but I am a very insecure person at the best of times. Ergo, I shall panic and write and play as much as I can until the gig.
On other musical agendas I am hopefully playing some nice folsky-acoustic songs with my dreadlocked multi-instrumentalist friend Patrick soon. While I like loud guitars and garage rock, I like variety as well. Another pair of Musicians want me to play in their Indie-slash-NuWave band. As a bassist, I am in high demand. On my agenda right now? Bed is in high demand.
