Chapter 1: Merlin Day
Dirt. That was the first thing Merlin thought about as he went hurdling towards the earth. He ended up doing a face-plant into the dirty ground, as he heard the guys roaring with laughter in the background. Jerks. Of course they were the reason he was now lying in a puddle of his own spit and blood.
Then again, it was his fault too. If he had just kept his mouth shut, he wouldn't be dealing with the humiliation he felt. That, however, was impossible. Especially if it was dealing with Arthur Pendragon, one of the biggest pricks at Pendragon Secondary School. Yes, his family owned the school; that just made him more of a prick.
As Arthur and his crew began to walk away from Merlin, he couldn't help but think about how he got himself into that situation. Merlin was leaving school after yet another long day of being shunned by his peers. He didn't mind it much; he enjoyed the freedom that came with not being noticed. Sadly, he wasn't invisible enough, because as he walked out of school, he bumped into the one person it was advised to stay away from: Arthur Pendragon. Merlin had muttered out an apology for bumping shoulders and was about to walk away when a hand clamped down on his shoulder.
To Merlin's surprise, it was Arthur, who was staring at him with a weird look on his face. Merlin just raised an eyebrow at him.
"Can I help you?" Merlin spoke up. Arthur blinked, but grinned.
"Do I know you from somewhere?" Merlin just stared at him blankly.
"Did we have a class together?"
"Possibly."
"Why haven't I noticed you before?"
"Because you weren't looking," Merlin muttered.
"What was that?" Arthur asked, his eyes narrowing.
"Look can I just go?" Merlin asked, getting impatient.
"There's no need to rush. School is already out."
"Well I kind of have some place to be. Sorry if I don't like being trapped at school all day," Merlin snapped. Arthur laughed.
"You're very weird, you know that?"
"Well you're a stupid prick, but it's better not to point out the obvious."
"What did you just call me?" Arthur growled out. His friends were forming a mob behind him.
"I called you a stupid prick. What are you going to do about it," Merlin taunted. Before Merlin could defend himself, Arthur punched him right in the mouth. The force of it made him fall to the ground in pain. When Arthur and friends were gone, he peeled himself off the the ground and checked his lip. Yup, it was split open.
