This leaving early plan didn't work out too well for us. The LaRue family was known for talking for hours, being late, and not doing what they had originally planned. We all have our faults. These faults drove my Mom crazy though. I don't remember what took them so long but it doesn't really matter.
Taylor and I got sick of waiting for the adults to get their shit together so we met up with Nick and started walking around to nowhere in particular. We got used to letting the adults do their thing and not waiting around for them to figure it out.
We walked past the park and then Taylor and Nick showed me where they went to smash glass, apparently it was therapeutic, but I'd much later cut my foot on glass there. I don't know exactly what to call this 'place.' It's basically a big cement ramp like at a skate park but it's old and covered in graffiti and burn wood and now surrounded by shattered glass. By the way, it's not very easy to climb up the ramp in flip flops; possible but not easy.
After that we walked over to this bridge that was covered in Graffiti and in front of it was tons of giant rocks all stacked on top of each other along a river. I have no idea how we wasted half the day just walking around here. I suppose we were easily entertained. We found this ball that echoed when we threw it and that kept us busy throwing it against the rocks. Then Nick hid Taylor's phone that she had left in this random hole in one of the rocks.
I don't remember what we talked about or how this took up so much time but that's how we spent the day just wandering, talking, listening to music, and taking pictures with our phones.
Nick was easy to talk to, he was cute. I honestly didn't think I'd see him again though, and if I did I thought it'd be once or twice for a little bit while I was visiting. I planned to move to Virginia the next summer and I never went to California that often so there was really no chance I'd see him again right? Wrong.
Eventually my parents called and asked us to meet them back at the house so we could eat, visit Papa, and get on the road. This was hours after they had said they would pick us up.
