"It's hard to believe that we started down there."
"What do you mean? We were all born on stations, no one lives there anymore."
"Well true, but that's where humanity started."

At six years of age, Ethan was smart. Smart enough to know that, but not to know how different he was. At 10 he was given a choice, a choice that changed his life, a choice between staying where he was, or moving to Station Alpha-Zero. At 11 that choice was offered again but with more benefits. At 12 the same choice was offered, promising a future for the rest of his family. Ethan always rejected the move, but as time moved on he saw how he could do better than he was. At 15 the choice was made and Ethan took the option to move. While this meant that he would have to leave his family behind they were promised a new life on a better station, a station that could provide almost anything they needed.

Information about Alpha-Zero wasn't well known. All that the general population, including Ethan at the time of his move, knew was that it was an elite training center sponsored by the High Orbital Council. The High Orbital Council was made up of member nations, most prominently the Orion Federal Territories and the Topaz Station Coalition.
