Hospital
like I was sleeping. Jude came in a few minutes later and silently shut the door. He crawled into bed slowly. He held me the rest of the night.

Sunlight was streaming through the little window when I awoke. His breathing was even and I knew he was still asleep. His breath fanned my cheek and I was glad he had not caught me in the night. I tried to stay as silent as I could as not to wake him. Heaven knew he needed the rest. He was up every night worrying, waiting, and watching my every motion to make sure I was comfortable, and he was paying the price for it. He had bags under his eyes and I was sure that he wasn't eating properly. I took the moment to study him. His dark hair was ruffled and his face was pale. He breathing slowly, in and out. In and out. In. Out. I was lost in the simplicity of watching someone so sick breathe so easily. His smile was small but he was content, like someone had told him something amusing. That smile wasn't shown often when he was awake. Life was seeping through his clothes as he slept. The heat that radiated off of him was being absorbed by the sheets. He looked at peace. I wanted it to be so he'd never have to wake up to fight for his life so much when he could be at peace in his dreams. I sighed and closed my eyes to sleep, but it didn't come. I decided to play with my hospital bracelet. It was what I did whenever I was at a loss of something to do. I ran my fingers through my hair and managed to wake Jude up in the process.
"Morning already?" He sighed and rubbed his eyes.
"You can sleep if you'd like."
He looked at me like I was crazy. "You should be the one sleeping more, don't worry about me." He tried to assure me.
"Jude, you need to sleep too, I can tell you are tired."
"Ah, I'm fine. Now you on the other hand need more sleep young lady."
I knew arguing with him would lead nowhere so I closed my eyes as slowly as I could. He waited till he thought I was asleep to bring his head down to the pillow and rest his extremely tired eyes. I knew though, that if I even so much as stirred, he would wake up and not fall asleep again because of his worrying about me. He treated me as if I were a sheet of paper and not a human being. I just hoped that I wasn't as fragile as he thought I was.
