Facebook, Jersey Shore, Vietnamese culture or Catholicism (interesting mix eh?) tells her she should be thinking and doing and projecting herself as. Oh--and can't forget perhaps the most important facet of all these standards of existence--her boyfriend, another alcoholic who I have trouble venting about because I do have true affection for but at the same time I can't ignore...what I see right before my very eyes? What I hear, have heard, and continue to hear about his habits? Which I am certainly not criticizing themselves, because he is completely free to engage in whatever activity he wishes, even self-destructive, aclholic drinking. The engagement in the actions is exempt from any criticism or judgment on my part. But I can't help but see it all for what it is, and this includes the girlfriend who seems to see it too but yet hangs on for dear life anyway, pretending (or maybe assuming?) that everything is fine as it is, as long as he can be a functioning (albeit alcoholically) boyfriend. So yes, that's all fine and dandy. They can all do what they want, be who they want, I really could care less, has no direct effect on me, my life, decisions or happiness. I just would prefer to be around people of a higher quality I guess. Self-honesty and less phoniness would be a plus.
