the pines along the street and old suburban roofs...have aware half lost in the
wave of another dream within that...and she slid by in slow motion in a stride
in pastel clothes....Her vivid red hair a startling color..the pale face with
its small chin...tall angular but attractive....But it was the nordic blue eyes
that took me in....She was not looking in to the diner...she was not looking
at my dream company lounging and discussing something...some banter...she
was looking right at me...so startled my dream jumped like a chain on a sprocket
I caught myself like tripping off a curb and chased the dream...brought it back
the setting changed...it was fall then...late afternoon...she held my stare too
her...it was the most unsettling and satisfying exchange I had felt in a long
long time....the dream street was distorted from its real life counterpart..I
always noted this in the dreams..forever practical and the realist as it could
be...But she was more real then real..Surreal..I watched her wend her way through
the cars wondering where it was she was going....where she had come from...
the dream fell apart then..dissolved...I stared up through the bedroom window
to the dark tangle of branches and leaves..expecting it to be sunny and bouyant
but it was the same grey of the dream....I was shaken....the de ja vue...

oh yes I always look..reading people is what I do...examine...next face..next
story in mannerism...dress...but this was different...
uncomfortable when I am read..

I woke up and stayed put all day...
