I shrieked, ducking and wildly diving to the side. My eyes widened as I looked up, only to see him preparing to attack again. I rolled to the side to avoid being cut to ribbons by his claws.
A growl built up in his throat, and, as he hesitated, I scrambled to my feet and backed up as far as I could, until I bumped into a tree.
I really hoped the tree didn't decide to grab onto me.
"C-cada?" I said, praying that the waver in my voice wasn't noticeable to him. It was. I could see it on his face. "I don't know what you're doing, but you'd better stop--"
It was a weak argument on my end and I knew it. Probably the worst argument I've ever given. But at least it got Cada to stop before he pounced on me again.
"Stop?" he cut in. "I'm trying to save both of your lives, like you want me to, and you're telling me to stop?"
"Well, yeah, because I don't want you to kill me!" I yelled.
He just shrugged. "Do you want Josh to live or not?"
He backed me into a corner and he knew it. A slow smile spread across his face as I tried to find a loophole, a way out, anything. Anything at all.
Did I really think that I could get a werewolf on my side when his life depended on my death?
"Yes," I whispered. "I do."
Cada stretched out his fingers, curling them into a ball over and over. "Then sorry Mallory, but you're going to have to do it my way. Nice knowing you, I guess."
I whimpered, trying to dart away before he could get at me with those ugly claws, but something was caught on my shirt and I struggled in vain to get away. Nails bit into my shoulder, lifting me up and throwing me back down on the ground with a painful thud.
I groaned and rolled over, a little disorientated. But Cada was already picking me up again, tossing me into a tree with a sickening sound. A pitiful scream escaped me as pain shot through my entire body, white spots crowding my vision.
"Cada," I cried weakly, still grasping at the few straws I had left. I couldn't see straight. I couldn't even feel anything anymore, not really. The impact had left me numb. And I knew that that wasn't a good thing. At all.
