The Phoenix Eye
Chapter 2: A Just Cause
The arrival of dusk lead me to their town. It was a fortress hidden beneath the base of the mountains. Countless flowers bloomed along the side of the cliff trickling down like a snowstorm. In their moment of chaos, this was their solitude. A safe haven that could sooth the mind and soul. I now see why they were out in that prairie. If this place was discovered, they would have no where to go and those three months they suffered would have been for naught.
"Come on Ian. You're staying at my home tonight and I don't accept no for an answer!" he declared with conviction.
"I don't wanna be a bothe-"
"Nope. You are not a bother at all and look we're here!" the house was a marvel in itself. A house that was carved into the mountain sculpted into perfection. The walls were decorated with beautiful designs that depicted the history of the land. Something struck me as odd though as I glimpsed at the walls, but it was too quick. It didn't matter.
It was either my carelessness or trust in others. As I had entered the room, something struck my neck and as soon as my voice dissipated, my eyes soon faded along with it. I had been tricked by a band of thieves. Merciless highwaymen who pretended to be the victims of war. The army was probably hunting them down through the artillery attack. "Hahahahaaa!" I laughed. I am such a naive idiot. They will probably try to kill me when I wake up.
While I slept, I felt a hand grip my shoulders rocking me back and forth. Soft whispers rolled through my ears. What would happen if I opened my eyes? Would they torture me for information or would they try to kill me when I wake up. Nothing mattered to me right now. Maybe if I ignored them, they would go away.
"I'm here to save you!" I could hear. My eye adjusted to the dim light shining through the cracks. The darkness hid his face yet I could tell. Those eyes had glared into me before, a penetrating stare that seemed to know all. "I've untied your ropes and the men won't be coming back for hours now. You need to listen to what I say...They think they've abducted us as prisoners of war. When they come back, we have to kill them!
