I could blame it on the students but it wasn't them. The system they were in, their parents, the school higher-ups, No Child Left Behind, and a few dead beat teachers, all failed these kids. And now they were the class from hell and no matter what tricks I pulled out of my bag, they were not going to buy it. I wouldn't buy it either, if I had a computer, an iPhone, an iPad, unlimited texting and music, and twenty-four hour telvision. Plus the vision of being on the next new reality show and having their fifteen minutes of fame for two to three years, sounds a whole lot better than listening to your boring teacher. I must admit I knew this was it for me and towards the end I just kept saying my Al-non prayer and made sure I didn't give them one minutes of free time ---inhaled, exhaled.
The last day of school I looked up from my desk and notice the room looked like I was never there. Except for part of a bulletin board, a student didn't take all the letters down and It now read "Class Les." I laugh so hard I thought my heart would pop. That said it all. I took a sign with my name on it, wrote"Has Left the Building" under my name, taped it on my door and left after thirty-two years of teaching. " Schools out forever!" Thank you

If Oprah can walk away , I can too. Of course, Oprah has millions of dollars for a safety net, her OWN network and Dr. Oz. I have pittance for a pension, one kid who is going on his seventh year of college and my husband's dream house in the middle of nowhere, sucking the life out of me. Now, "My life is mine" yeah Oprah.My small little life with small little money.Of course money can't buy you happiness, but it can buy you shoes, chocolate, an annual pass to Disneyland, travel and the best health care, which does make you happy.
Nothing like retiring during the worse times since the depression. Though now that I think about it I was ready for this period in history, " No one has money!"except Oprah, Donald Trump and let's not forget old Mitt with his million in the Cayman Islands.Of course, Oprah deserves her money.ß
