rest of the public as. This also made her much more dangerous to be associated with.
I don't have an issue with our school, but it is pretty shitty. The student body isn't exactly pleasant, and we have cops everywhere patrolling the halls for a reason. I knew a kid who was stabbed in the throat once for no reason what so ever. Actually, I'm pretty sure it was because he just didn't care if someone was making fun of him. My point being, Rita was one of those people. She probably would be willing to get into a physical fight, and sooner or later I would end up getting grief for being her friend. I didn't feel so bad.
The first time I realized this was when Rita and I had started talking to each other. It was October, and we were the few people eating outside. The two of us were both wrapped up in coats and scarfs, which somehow failed to protect us from the sting of Fall. "Tell me something," she said, poking methodically at her food.
"What?"
"Why did you bother talking to me?"
I thought for a moment. I was really unsure of what to say, so I said "because no one else does."
"Well, isn't that obvious?" Rita looked confused. "I want the real reason."
"Because everyone else hates you." She smirked at this, I'm not sure why.
