"WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU MEAN I AM NOT HUMAN!" That was what Brendan Newhart was shouting at the doctor who had told him the news. He was standing in the hallway, in only his dressing gown and chest wrap. His eyes blazed flaming hatred, but in that there was also something more. He stood in a scene of carnage. It appeared as if he had thrown the doctor through the door, as the man lay on the ground, surrounded by wood and glass shards, mostly glass. An IV stood just behind Brendan, dripping its juice onto the ex-door's frame. There were nurses and doctors all around, unsure about what to do. One of them appeared to have dropped some tray, and its contents had spilled everywhere. More than one security guard stood gun drawn, unsure if they could fire. The only other person who seemed unfazed by the pandemonium before them was Dr. Springer who stood above the man on the floor, calmly explaining to Brendan what was known of his unique condition.
"...replaced by synthetic parts. We need to do more tests to continue-"
"SYNTHETIC! IS THIS SYNTHETIC?" Brendan shouted, picking up a piece of glass and cutting open his arm.
"The blood is-"
"I HAVE HAD ENOUGH OF YOUR LIES!" And with that he turned and ran back into his bedroom, smashing out the window. Dr. Springer ran forward to stop him, but it was too late, he had jumped. He turned our way, and facing us he said "Good to see you officers, I am afraid our explanation did not go as well as we had hoped. I think it best we followed him."
The three of us ran towards the door leaving a mass of stunned characters behind us. We ran out the door, down the stairs, taking them two at a time. Finally we arrived outside under the window of the room Brendan had jumped out of. It was about two stories up, a long fall for anyone. At the bottom there was glass and blood. Tommy turned to the two of us, "Well, shall we split up?"
"we are going to need more than us," said Dr. Springer.
"No," I said, "not enough time, we will have to do this on our own."
"Okay, let's get going. Forester; you take west. Crowley takes north. I will go east."
We all headed off our separate ways. I ran forward, checking down side streets as I ran. I didn't know why, but I suddenly stopped about halfway down New Market and 46th. There was an alleyway, not too different from any other one, but yet I felt that I had to stop. There was something on the wind, a sound, like cats. As I got closer I could tell that Brendan was crying.
