She walked through the street, her shadow almost double her height. She walked, and walked until she reached a building on the side of the road. She knocked on the door, and was instantly recognized by the doorman. "Alexa." It was a statement, but she nodded to acknowledge that he was indeed correct. He opened the door for her, and she swept through, blinking to adjust to the dim lighting. Her hair flipped onto her shoulders when she shook her head to move her bangs off of her forehead. She glanced around the room, and saw the man at the desk. He was portly, tan, and his hair was cropped in a military cut, which she knew came from his years in the marines.
He nodded at her, and she smiled and continued to walk. A set of double doors stood slightly ajar, and light music permeated through them. An aroma of cooking apples also spread through the air, making her think of thanksgiving, when she used to go home and smell the apple pie baking. The double doors were slightly daunting, and were mainly there to defer people who shouldn't be there from entering. This was her home, and while she shared it with the other people who lived in the apartment building, there was also the chance that someone would mistake it.
