The shaggy grey wolf, Nanok whipped its gigantic head around staring at its fragile prey. They stood silent, the orange rising sun stood before them, he growled his low menacing growl and lean back ready to strike. 1, 2, 3… he counted in his head. He leaped but to his dismay the prey had vanished before his powerful paws could get him. “Drat!” he spat silently under his breath. He sighed and padded away, sniffing around for some easy lunch. “That darn squirrel must have alerted everything when it ran away from me. Now the whole forest of prey is hiding.” He uttered to himself. He padded over to a hollow tree and stepped inside. It was a good and warm shelter, well, at least for tonight. He sniffed around and circled himself twice. He laid down and closed his amber eyes, nodding off into a deep sleep.
He awoke startled by the sound of the crunching of leaves . He approached out of the hollowed out tree, carefully placing each paw step. He heard a loud growl and scented a she-wolf. He whipped his skinny grey body around and faced her. She was very petty and elegant looking with a soft white pelt and golden eyes. He snorted, a female like her looks like she wouldn’t want her pretty little pelt to get stained with blood. She curled her lip at him and showed her teeth that would pierce through any skin. Nanok stood his ground a howled “This is my territory!” he lunged forward and nipped her in the leg, drawing a trickle of red blood, warning her. She spat at harshly at him “This is my territory, you flea-biting runt!” she flicked the tip of her tail back and forth. Nanok turned his head the the nearest tree, she was right, her scent was all over the trees around him. He spoke bravely “I am sorry, but I must stay here.” he lowered his head to show no harm. She flicked her ears “If you wish too stay, then you must come with me to my clan. I cannot allow you to live in my territory if you don't live in Brushclan.” He stared at her astonished, but he bowed his head. “I will come..It is my only choice” he relaxed his stance and looked at her. She nodded “Very well, Follow me.” Nanok followed her into the pale green forest his paws prickling with the excitement of living in a clan.
He walked silently into the clans home and hid his face. There where growls of annoyance, disbelief and wonder. The young she-wolf leaped onto a highrock, glistening when the sun shined brighty on it. He looked at her as she called her pack to a meeting. She stared out into the crowd of wolves howling and growling in anger. “Silence!” she howled across the field raking her sharp claws into the air. The wolves looked around and at me. I could feel the stare of them burning at my ratted pelt. I, again, said hopelessly at the fresh summer ground. Though, the gaze slowly vanished when she began to speak. “BrushPack is heaping with prey but we are small. After the fire...” she stopped sadly and bowed her head, looking up in the sky “We have lost many omegas and our beta.” Nanok looked at the other wolves, some were leaning against each other and some were staring at the ground. He looked up at the she-wolf, Akira, what were omegas and betas he wondered. She continued on her pelt glistening a bright white in the shine of the golden sun. She shook her head and focused on with her story, but, she turned her golden eyed gaze on him. He bravely held it. “I have brought a outsider to join the pack. I have been watching him a while and he seems to have the smarts to be a true Pack Wolf.” She stared at him and motioned him to come forward onto the highrock next too her. He bounded nervously up onto the rock and sat beside her. “This is Nanok and he is allowed to join the clan if he accepts.” She turned to him and smiled brightly “Nanok, outsider of the forest, do you promise to uphold the life of a Pack Wolf and put your life in danger to save the clan?” Nanok stared into her golden eyes. YES he thought, he smiled and dipped his head “I do.” She nodded “Then by the powers of Starpack we welcome you as a omega.” She licked his shoulder and turned to the Pack who were howling happily. “Welcome Nanok to BrushPack!”
Nanok awoke happily in his new den the next day ready to learn more about being in a Pack. He walked outside and sat down. Looking around at his surroundings, wolfs were eating, talking and sleeping. He smiled and went to lay down in a sunny spot. The she-wolf who was talking about him yesterday sat before him. “Hello, Nanok. Today you will learn about the clan and how to fight and hunt.” Nanok nodded his head excitedly “But, who would teach me?” he wondered aloud. The she-wolf smiled “I will. I am the Alpha Female but I would love to mentor you.” Nanok nodded and asked politely “What is your name?” she looked into his eyes and spoke to him “I am Akira, daughter of the great wolf, Tookisa.” She lifted her chin proudly. He gazed at her “Well thanks Akira. Should we begin?”
He followed her around the camp, he learned that there were omegas and betas. The betas were like a alpha female or male but they don’t have as much say in what the pack does. The omegas just hunt for the Pack and protect it. There were also Pups, the younger ones that still need to be with their mother. He listened to her carefully “ There are things we call medicine wolfs, they heal the Pack and they listen to prophecy from StarPack.” She smiled at him as they stepped into the den of the medicine wolf. Looking around he could she many herbs including coltsfoot and poppyseeds. He nodded but asked “What are StarPack?” he wondered aloud. She blinked her golden eyes and said “ They are our ancestors, they live among the stars sending us prophecys and watching over us.”
