If there is one thing I can say about long distance relationships, it's that most of them truly and utterly suck. I'm usually not one for unformalities, but it's really the only term I can use for it. Long distance relationships tug at the heartstrings of each person involved. In the minds of each individual, the other person is the one who went away. Whether it is a war story or one of simple across-the-country love, the same sensations are felt: fear and desparate need for the missing person.
What would one think of doing if their loved one lived across a distance? It's simple. Buy a plane ticket, arrange hotel accomodations, plan a schedule, and meet your loved one. Lack of money? Of course, I forgot about the economy for a second. Too young to visit your loved one? Then you probably aren't in love. You most likely don't even have a job to pay for your visit to your "loved one".
