Beverages for tonight:
Tonight was game night, which means more beverage consumption than other nights of the week (except Friday wine tastings, of course).
1) A white wine from Lebanon. Interesting nose, very blah taste. I give it an 83, and a "not recommended". I have another bottle that I'll let sit for a bit before opening up.
2) A cider sweetened with Maple Syrup from Crispin. Ciders are generally fermented dry, then if sweetness is desired, some sort of sweetener is added. This company (Crispin, as mentioned above) has one with Honey, one with Maple Syrup, and one with Molasses. This was the Maple Syrup variant, and I really enjoy it. I tasted all three at the apple festival this past weekend and I thought this was the best. I still need to buy a bottle of the Honey version and try it. Oh yes, this was fermented with Trappist Yeast, whatever that means.
3) A single-varietal cider from Wandering Aengus. This is a local cider producer and I simply love what they are doing. This cider was very dry, but very distinctive, as it was from one single kind of apple (Wickson, in this case). Very good.
4) My friend Jonathan brought a bottle of Riesling which was quite enjoyable, 2008 Weins-Prum Estate Riesling. I have 6 bottles in storage of my own. I thought this was ok, but not great. It had a decent nose, but was kind of ordinary and uninspired on the palate. A little bit of residual sugar, but not very much.
At gamenight, we first played some Zombie game which was pretty darn fun. Basically, each player controlled a continent and had to defend against zombie invasion. I was North America and managed to sequester people in Alaska and Hawaii, but not enough to win. After that, we played Betrayal at House on the Hill. I ended up being the villain, which was pretty fun, but I ended up losing, as the other players objective ended up being really easy to get to. I did manage to kill one player (Paul), which was entertaining.
Tomorrow I'm working from home. We released to UAT today and I'm on support tonight, which worries me. I may get woken up when Dublin comes online, if things aren't working right. Fingers crossed!
Wine tasting tomorrow is Loire valley whites. Lots of Chenin Blanc, which I'm totally down with. One Muscadet and a Sauvignon Blanc. Should be great.
