Here I am in France
It's Saturday and I have been socialising. I had a visit from JB about nine of the clock, he had to say that Margaret was not going to the market as arranged because of the work she had done yesterday for her chambre d'hote guests had hurt her feet standing up all day. He asked if I could take a bag of goodies to Roger who would be at the market, I said yes I would and he left on his way to a practice of their choir in Montcuq.
The weather today is bright and fine, just a hint of rain on the horizon toward the south. So, on to the market square to meet some friends.
Stop at the library first, see who is on duty in the English book section. Nick is there holding the fort, I spend about a quarter hour just chatting, it's getting near to 11:45 and I depart and walk to the market square. There are one or two faces I recognise, but I don't as yet know their names, we nod and say 'bonjour,' the universal greeting in France, everyone one passes will say good morning, it seems the most natural thing to do in such a friendly place.
There are lots of foreigners here, foreigners to France that is. I've met people from Australia, the USA, Holland, Belgium, Switzerland, and of course England. The whole community is well integrated and a lot happens here during the summer months.
Back to the Saturday market. I can't find Roger so after buying some delicious looking tomatoes, a lettuce and some new out of the ground this morning potatoes, I start on my way back home. An inspirational thought has just come my way, I shall call in at the supermarché and buy a coil of Toulouse saucisson and some cheese. Purchases made this time I head for home. A gentle roll down the hill, nearing the house I wave at Francoise who is, unbelievably, walking up the road, I turn into my drive, look at the stumpery as I pass and smile to myself at all the hard work I have done to clear the weeds. It looks so much better now.
