i think i should start writing a book about teaching... a memoir if you will but what could i say about teaching? I've only been doing it for going on 11 years. What could I really say. I could tell stores about my time in the trenches. I could tell stories about parents, students, myself, how my life has changed because of my job, etc... I could also talk about how and why teachers refer to the profession in war terms like in the trenches and back to the front and etc... I'm not sure why we do that. I'm not sure why I do that. I think it's a bit cliche and a bit ridiculous and I don't know why.
I have seen administrators come and go over my years of teaching and i don't know why they move around so much. I do know if you're related to someone at the top it helps a tremendous lot. Or if you've just been here forever it helps. That's pretty much true in all smaller, more rural areas, though. I know it was true where i grew up in Tennessee. It's true but it's certainly not fair.
I'm still surprised at the level of tolerance around here for people with other beliefs and lifestyles. I think that's more of a forced tolerance, as this county is always worried about lawsuits. I think they know if they fired someone because of their sexuality, or their beliefs or lack thereof they'd be in big trouble and facing a wall of litigation.
Wonders never cease as my mother used to say. She may still say that, I'm not sure as I'm rarely around her since she's 800 miles away.
Speaking of which, i wonder what she'll do when my brother moves to some foreign country to be a missionary. She and my dad did encourage this through their religious brainwashing. I hope they aren't too upset when they don't get to see their baby boy anymore because he's halfway around the world "doin' the lawd's work."
