I didn’t see him standing there out of the corner of my eye at first while I sat there on the knobby green rug in the humid room. I was looking at the old Aerosmith poster next to a jaws movie poster taped above the book shelf that had a collection of classic star wars VHS movies on it. Dust lingered in the air. An old tan Sony record player, like the one my mom use to have, was lingering by my feet. It was playing a Rolling Stones red vinyl album. He was just there in the small door way, he appeared as if pulling an invisibility cloak off of his body. I thought I was seeing things. Hallucinating even. I had to do a double take. He had come into the small attic like room the same way I had by using the stairs, the only way into the room, away from the massive party that was down stairs and all throughout the house.
I took a deep breath through my water logged lungs coming to the realization that he wasn’t going to just disappear in a puff of smoke and dust. My hand rested on my heart as if in some way placing it there would stop its heavy pounding in my tiny rib cage. I glanced up at him from my spot on the floor, gazing at him through the thick rims of my mascara laden eye lashes.
He is wearing a dark almost black pair of jeans with a maroonish cable knit sweater that lies limply over his torso. I can see that the sweater is too big for him so he wears it over a light grey wife beater tank top. Thick dark cursive scrip of a tattoo is visible on his color bone then hides its self under that ungodly sweater. I am curious to what the words say but I don’t ask him. I just keep on staring, mouth open just a little as if to let out a spit bubble at any moment. His hair is darker, hanging in thick strands by his face and on his shoulders. The strands look as if at one point they could have been braids, but never made it to that stage. His face is doesn’t have that boyish roundness to it. A certain angle it had to it, angular and pointed. His jaw line was strong and very defined making his deep brown eyes stand out stark and pointed as well. His eyes were framed by thick black eye brows. I couldn’t stop myself from staring; my own eyes seemed to get lost in his dark brown orbs. I noticed that he had only a couple of piercings but some were similar to myself. He had two silver hoops going through his right nostril. I also had a nose ring, but it was only a little pink stud.
He smiled at me, now that we had been checking each other out for more than ten seconds. I shyly smiled back looking away tucking a piece of stray hair up behind my ear. My face was starting to heat up like a volcano waiting for the right moment to explode. My heart beat pounded in my chest irregularly. I couldn’t tell if it was because I was in the presence of someone I had never met before or this stranger was a very handsome looking young man.
