Carl picked up a tiny fragment of metal between his long fingers, turning it this way and that to get a better look at it. He reached over to me without taking his eye off the metal, twitching his fingers toward me. I jerked myself to attention, frantically looking over the safe-kit to find a small evidence bag. He dropped the small peice of metal into the bag and closed it, handing it back to me.
"What do you think?" he asked me, reaching for another fragment.
"Ah ... uhm, a small bomb or a short explosion." I squeezed my eyes shut to think of anything else that could have triggered a rainshower of metal. I looked over to Carl again, handing him a small bag. He nodded, handing me the filled bag. This bag, instead of the other one, had more than just one. I paused before I took it, looking at Carl. "Why are there three peices in this bag?"
Carl rocked back on his feet, looking at me with a you-should-know look. I racked my brain as I tried to think, there were so many options to why there was three. It could be the shapes of the shards, the type of metal, the class of metal, the density, or that Carl might be getting really old.
"There are two different kinds of metal, Aaron." I heard beside me, I looked over as Evelyn pulled up her pants to crouch down beside me. She slipped her hands into the gloves and reached over to grab two peices of metal. They glittered in her palm as she shook them slightly and then showed them to me. "See, this one has more of a darker look to it while the other peice is lighter and silvery." I leaned over to look into her palm but I couldn't notice the difference, they both looked the same to me. "You'll get it soon, at least you didn't mix them up." She smiled softly, taking the bag from my hands and dropping the correct metal peices into the right bag.
"I think you're right, Aaron. I think this was a small explosion." Carl observed, looking at the burn pattern on the large wall. He pointed up to the crown of the burn, tracing the large arch. "It looks like it exploded then then burned for a while. What do you think Ev?" He asked Evelyn who snapped her phone shut and stood up.
"I have a 435 on Oak's Place. I have to go. I'll send in Griff." She exused herself, dailing Griffin's number and ordering him down to our scene. I looked over at Carl who shrugged and looked back down at the small bits of metal.
