In the days of old before the wars of kings, before gold and greed caused suffering and hunger in the world, there lived an old man on a tall cliff at the edge of the world. His face was worn like an old pair of leather boots and his eyes where like deep black ponds filled with a lifetime of wisdom. No one ever talked to him, mostly because they he lived far away from anyone. He lived there all by himself in his old weathered house facing the magnificent ocean, and everyday he would sit outside his house under an oak so old that it had giant roots winding up from the ground and twisting around each other creating a fabulous spectacle for all who dared to venture this far to the edge of the world. He would sit there everyday under this magnificent tree just gazing out towards the horizon. Thinking, perhaps of his life and all the thing he had accomplished, or maybe stories of great kings and marvelous wonders from a country far away in a bygone era.
Once every few years, a brave adventurer or a lost traveler would stumble upon the old man on the cliff, sitting there with an old pipe, his eyes always searching for something. After a few moments of hesitation they would approach the old man. Slowly, but steadily they would eventually stop right before the old withered man. Then after what seemed like an eternity of waiting the man would look up and stare right into their eyes. He would then say; "I am the old grey who's always searching, stare into my eyes and you shall find what your heart desires. Be but very careful though, if you are not in control of your desires dreadful things will happen." Most of them would then turn around and flee, for they where terrified of his deep eyes and what they might reveal in the darkness of their hearts.
One day a young man apeared out of the woods. This was a troubled and tired young man. He had lost his family when he was very young, and ever since been stumbling about the world trying to find his place. He had ventured to the dark corners of the world, and much like the old man, he was always searching for something just outside his reach. The young man suddenly saw the old man sitting there, like he always was, under the great oak with his pipe staring towards the horizon. The young man was fascinated by this old man sitting there under the oak seemingly unaware of the troubles of the world, just sitting there without any concerns. So the young man pulled up and went over to the old man like so many had done before him. When he stopped the old man did nothing, for he had been around for a long time and knew the
